Aims and objectives of the linguistic programme

We believe that linguistic learning is a relationship between you and the language, making it a way of life. Our programmes facilitate this relationship.

 

After finalising the booking, we will ask you to complete the CEFR online placement test (a link will be provided). Three weeks prior to arrival we would like to receive your completed pre-course objective form.

 

​Speaking:

Spoken communication is the way ideas and thoughts are articulated. Speaking is a crucial objective of our programmes, and the teacher will encourage you to improve your communication skills. Interactive activities, class discussions on topics of interest, and debates will enhance your fluency, accuracy and pronunciation leading to confidence in spoken English. You will have the opportunity to practise making statements, narrating experiences, asking questions, giving directions, and giving instructions, using polite expressions in appropriate ways and conversation in social situations.

 

Listening:

Active listening is the key to improving vocabulary as well as pronunciation. The teacher will enable you to form listening strategies to participate in real time spoken English, allowing you to comprehend and interpret for meaning and vocabulary. Listening tasks will enable practise listening for gist as well as for specific details.This will be done through interesting materials which will help you to engage in conversations and podcasts where you can understand a variety of speaking styles.

 

Reading:

The teacher will help you become an effective reader by addressing the challenges you face. By adopting reading strategies ( for general sense of content, for specific information and to consolidate understanding), you will learn to extract meaning according to the purpose of your reading, allowing you to read and understand at different levels.

 

Writing:

The teacher will identify any difficulties you are having and provide support and feedback throughout the writing process. You will improve your skills in writing formal and informal emails, notes, and letters to make them flow and easy to read. A daily diary will give you the opportunity to articulate your feelings, practise your writing skills and improve your vocabulary.

 

Feedback and continual learning:

The teacher will give you verbal feedback on your progress. This will facilitate you to set both short-term and long-term goals. You will leave the course equipped with the means and the methods to continue your journey.
